PLATO Jewellery Design is based on the ‘godparents’-formula of VOKA, where designers meet monthly to share knowledge and experiences. The participants get the opportunity to brainstorm in an open and confidential environment with a fixed group of fellow designers, supervised by experienced ‘godfathers’. The cycle consists of 1 starting day and 9 sessions in the evening. Nico Taeymans, jewellery designer and business manager of Juno bvba, and Edith Vervliet, director of Flanders Fashion Institute, will guide the participants in their professionalization and further growth.
‘The Plato-sessions are enriching as you are forced to check if your ideas are compatible with a reality that’s not the artistic one, more specifically the economic, financial and organisational reality. Before, I prefered to stay away from these business aspects out of fear that it would obstruct my creativity. However, what it does is make the business sharper and that is healthy… In that way, Plato is very interesting because it offers a coat hanger on which you can drape your artistic ideas. It is a meaningful exercise in which you learn how to place your work in the world.” (Peter Vermandere – juweelkunstenaar)
PLATO connects starters in the fashion industry to experienced godfathers or godmothers in order to transfer knowledge and share experiences. Can your enterprise use more effectiveness and power? Send an email to Marie Delbeke.
